Elijah Raefield Mixon, son of Jesse Bond and Martha E. Mayo Mixon, was b. in Beaufort County, NC, June 1, 1869, d. May 10, 1941. He is listed in the "Builders of Eastern North Carolina" (1931). At age 17, he moved to Washington, county seat of Beaufort County, and established a wholesale grocery by 1899. He was educated in the Beaufort Schools, and was for a number of years a member of the Board of Education and treasurer of School Funds. He was active in the Masons and Rotary Club. He m.
