468 GEORGE MIXON, WILLIAM MIXON (5), JOHN MIXON III (3), JOHN MIXON II (2), JOHN MIXON I (1)

George Mixon, planter and Revolutionary soldier, son of William and Frances Mixson, was b. in North Carolina, probably Craven County, ca. 1748, d. probably in Orangeburg District, S.C., before 1810.

In 1785, he sold his lands in Kershaw County left him by his father, moved down to the south fork of the Edisto River, Orangeburg County, just over the line from Barnwell, and obtained several tracts of land totaling over 1000 acres. Early records of Orangeburg are gone and it is not possible to know the date of his death or who inherited his lands. It is known that Adriel Mixon (perhaps the oldest son) was in that area in 1810 and 1820 censuses.

 

On Nov 18, 1791 George Mixson filed claim for 35 days service in Capt. Magee’s Company, and 45 days service in Capt. Willis Whitaker’s Company (both of General Marion’s Brigade), and submitted the following order:

 “This is to certify that Geroge Mixon is discharged by order of General Marion to go home till further order.  This 7th, July 1781.  (Signed) Elisha Megee, Capt.”

Adriel Mixon, son of George Mixon and wife, was, in Kershaw County, S.C., ca. 1777, d. in Washington Parish, LA, ca. 1859. A planter and a soldier in the War of 1812. Name of first wife, whom he m. ca. 1774, is unknown, m. (2) Mar 14, 1829 Rhoda Singleton.

Mr. Mixon's first wife had died before 1829. He m. (2) Rhoda Singleton, a widow, on Mar. 14, 1729 (this was a short lived marriage). She lived to be over 100 years old. No children. Adriel had moved to Washington Parish in the early 1820s and at one time owned a section of land. Shown in the 1850 census of that parish in the home of his son, M.C., his age is 73.

Obediah Fleming "Obed" Mixon, son of George Mixon (a Revolutionary soldier) and his wife, was b. in Kershaw County, S.C., ca. 1780, d. Feb. 21, 1832 in Amite County, MS He was issued a passport by the Governor of Georgia to pass through the Indian nations to "the Western Country", Oct. 26, 1810, and another Nov. 21, 1811. The last passport mentioned that he was from Orangeburg District, S.C. He had m. Sabrina Levicy Sanders in SC, b. 1791, d. 1860.
