John H. Mixson died at his home in Barnwell County, SC last week, aged seventy-six. For him is claimed the honor of having shipped the first full car load of watermelons ever sent out of the State of South Carolina.  This was in 1867.

Eliza Ann Mixson married her cousin, John Seth Daniel, who had been educated at “The Arsenal" in Columbia and at "The Citadel" in Charleston. The family sojourned in Monticello, FL , for several years after the Civil War. Mr. Daniel's health failed him during those years and he was never able to return to the flourishing naval stores business with which he was occupied until Sherman's conquest of Savannah. The widow, Eliza Mixson Daniel, established a resort hotel in Bellton, GA , which did not flourish. She m. (2) "Judge" Heywood Walker, a Methodist Clergyman. No children.
