MATTIE ELLA MIMS MIXSON
OBITUARY

"MATTIE ELLA MIMS MIXSON, wife of A. J. Mixson, Williston, Fla. , was born in Screven County, Georgia, July 9, 1860, and died at her home, May 26, 1910. She was the fourth daughter and the eleventh child of Dr. Thos. S. and Mary E. Mims. Her father was a native of Barnwell County, SC , but moved to Screven County, Georgia, in 1840, where he lived for sixty-six years in the perfect confidence of his neighbors as physician and citizen. Her mother was Mary Elizabeth Lines, born in Liberty County; Ga. , and reared chiefly in Bulloch County, Ga. , where she married at her mother's home in 1810 in the seventeenth year of her age. This mother is remembered as a woman of refinement and of face and character alike, beautiful - these the daughter inherited in no small degree. Mrs. Mixson has left in sorrow a husband and six children, four sons and two daughters, who will ever remember her thoughtful, self-sacrificing devotion to their care and their interest. There are also four brothers and a sister, and three half sisters and one half brother that are saddened in that she is no longer with us, but consoled by the consciousness that it is such as she who make up the Kingdom of Heaven. Mrs. Mixson was a member of the Independent Presbyterian Church at Savannah, Ga. , having joined that church at the age of seventeen, while attending a boarding school in that city. The learned and faithful Dr. Axson was the rector. She continued steadfast to that faith. Mrs. Mixson inherited to a marked degree the dignity of bearing and lofty purposes of her resolute, ambitious and honorable father, and the tender, gentle, lovable character of her angelic mother.

The precious memory of this handsome, amiable, kindhearted, courteous and intelligent woman will abide with those who were near to her, as long as life shall last, and serve, it is believed, as an inspiration to higher ideals of life. "
