1772 VINCENT MIXON, JESSE MIXON, JOHN MIXON IV (6), JOHN MIXON III (3), JOHN MIXON II (2), JOHN MIXON I (1)

Vincent Mixon, (He was usually referred to as Vinson), s. of Jesse Mixon and wife, was b. ca.1778 in South Carolina. He participated in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery, and on Monday, January 28, 1811, he, with his wife and six children, were among a number of people granted passports by the Governor of Georgia to pass through the Indian Nations.

He is shown in the 1816 census of Marion County, MS, with his wife and six children, with three sons and three daughters. He was a juror in Marion County, 1819, but is not shown in the 1820 or subsequent censuses of MS or GA It is not known what happened to him and his family - they could have gone to another state, or could have died and his children scattered, some could have returned to Georgia. Some of his children (and it could have been one or more sons) were born, evidently, before 1800, as he had his six children at the time of his passport in Jan., 1811. They could have moved to Texas, where no complete census was had before 1850.

From Marguerite Richardson Biemer:

Vinson Mixon paid tax last time in 1818 in Marion County. Grandmother said someone was taken back to Georgia to be with her people. She also had relatives in Alabama. This must have been Vinson's wife, and her maiden name was probably Webb.

Census:

1811 Mississippi Territory, Vincent Mixon, Name on petition to Congress, 27 Dec 1811, by inhabitants of the territory seeking to be combined with West Florida and made into a new state.

1816 Marion Count, MS, Mississippi, State and Territorial Census, Vinson Mixon
