Reuben Mixon, s. of John and Rebecca Slade Mixon, was b. in Marion County, MS July 27,1825.  Reuben Mixon enlisted September 17, 1861, in Company "G" 27th Mississippi Infantry in the Confederate Army by J. B. Kennedy and then died Oct. 2, 1862 in a Confederate Hospital at Chattanooga, TN. . Reuben was described as being five-foot nine-inches tall, dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair, and a farmer by occupation. He m. (1) Mary Hinton about 1850, dau. of William Riley and Martha Jane (Everett) Hinton, and an aunt to James Quincey Hinton. She was born March 1, 1832. They had one child, Caroline Mixon, born April 12, 1851. It appears Mary Hinton Mixon died in childbirth and the child also. He m. (2) ) in 1854 to Martha Carter, b. abt 1824.

In 1850, his father located land owned by an Indian who was moved to a reservation by the Federal Government. Reuben received 5E¼ NW; Sec 28 T4N R11W 40.05 acres. His father had 40.05 acres just north of Reuben's land.

Reuben Mixon is shown on the 1850 census for Perry County as owning land and having been married within the year census taken.  Reuben Mixon's children were in the Methodist Orphanage at Lauderdale, Mississippi for a while. They are shown on the 1870 census with their grandmother, Rebecca Mixon. Mr. Elbert Courtney said Sarah Mixon Gillis helped to rear Reuben's children.
