Margaret Elizabeth Mixon, of John C. and Martha J. Perry Mixon, was b. ca 1855 MS., d. Jan 17, 1901 Washington Co., TX ., m. before Jul. 19, 1873, James J. Saunders,  b. 1848, Buffalo, N.Y., d. May 28, 1906 Washington Co., TX . Both buried Old Gay Hill Cemetery, Washington Co., TX.

A grandson, Mr. John R. Parker, says Mr. James J. Saunders was from Buffalo, New York. He was engaged to a southern girl when the Civil War broke out, so enlisted in the Confederate Army. The young lady died during the war.

After the Civil War when James Saunders returned home, his family wanted nothing to do with him, so he went south again and settled on the water front near Galveston, Texas, as he knew something about ship building.

Mr. Saunders finally stopped at Anahuac, Texas, where he met Margaret Elizabeth Mixon, and married her there. They lived at Anahuac until sometime after the first child was born, and then moved to Gay Hill, Texas, in Washington County. Mr. Saunders worked, building railroads, for the Santa Fe Railroad. He later worked for the County of Washington building most of their bridges across the various creeks, and at that time lived in Brenham.
