Dec. 31, 1996. He retired in 1967. He made "railroading" a career, and possessing all the qualities that makes for a successful executive and administrator, he did his job unusually well. On October 20, 1928, he m. Elizabeth Edwards Gaillard - b. Feb. 13, 1905, d. Jul. 28, 1992, dau. of George Crafts and Sallie Cone Edwards Gaillard.  Both bur. Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, SC.
