My 2nd cousin said, Grandpa John wouldn't marry her til she became a Christian. (It wasn't godly of him to keep her having their children. He could of should of waited. Anyhow, Larry.  Luther Mixon, s. of Benton and Mary Hogan Mixon, was b. Nov 21, 1883, d. 1952, m. Frances (Kathern ) Hughes, b. Nov 16, 1886, d. Oct 20, 1918. I believe that Luther was the son of Benton Mixon.  This is based on the Obituary for Cleon Benton Mixon.  below:

On Friday, July 28, 1961, at 7:45 o'clock a.m., CLEON BENTON MIXON SR., beloved husband of Elizabeth Kinchen, father of Cleon Benton Mixon Jr., brother of Walter Mixon of Amite, La., and the late Felton, Luther, Hulen Mixon and Mrs. Lillie Greer, aged 72 years, a native of Amite, La., and a resident of New Orleans, La., for 35 years.    Published in The Times-Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Saturday, July 29, 1961

The reason my dad and the kids are listed that way (i.e. 1920 census) is because my grandfather would put them in an orphanage, and take off to do whatever…..

 

 My dad actually quit school in the 4th grade and sold newspapers so they could all be together, and not be dumped off like they were.  

 

On the Wooley side of my family, my grandfather was the same, except he came home long enough to get my grandmother pregnant, take whatever money they had made, and take off again. 

 

In fact, I was told he actually had another wife here in California, and had a son named Sheb Wooley..  

 

Unfortunately, he has passed away, and I have no way to contact any of his family to verify that.  

 

Both of my brothers, James, and Gary have passed away.  James had diabetes very severely, and did not get treatment as he should.   

 

Gary, was married to Christina, and they had two children, Gary jr., and Elizabeth.  He and cChris divorced, and Gary re-married and moved to Pensylvania, where he fell down some stairs, hit his head, and died.  

 

They are both buried in Bogalusa along with my mom, dad, and the baby Wayne.
