Fortunately, it was a Thursday and the Doctor was in his office. Our doctor was Doctor Brasher who probably was about the same age as Dad for he had a son my age and we had classes together in later years. We were not strangers to Dr. Brasher, in those early years he actually made house calls and back in January my brother fell, of all places off the toilet, cut his knee and Dr. Brasher sewed him up with three stitches.

At the doctor’s office, I laid down on the operating table while Dr. Brasher cleaned my wound, a gash across my right eyebrow and he said in his soothing doctor voice, “You might feel a little prick,” as he took a syringe and injected Novocain next to my eye. I almost fainted right there but I held on. It wasn’t much of a prick anyway, I felt worse from bee stings and the cut hurt a lot more. It took five stitches to close me up.
