Billy and the Turkey Shoot
A Thanksgiving Story
By Danny Tillman

Part 3

Outside
The ever moving circles of light
Are dots of darkness.
When a circle moves near a dot
The dot may be enveloped in the light
Or run beyond the radius
To again wander
In hopeless despair.
-Timouthy Titus Tintillious Them

Back home!

They hardly remembered the trip home, each person lost in his and her thoughts of wonder of the Great Turkey Shoot, the Great Turkey Shooter, and Billy's narrow rescue from SHOOTING HIMSELF -OR- being shot by another. What further wonders did Thanksgiving have in store, when they were to meet with their great turkey-shoot hero again?…and they couldn't imagine what their joy must be like when they were able to be among the family and friends of the one who had saved them from this harrowing day…and they were going to have turkey! Were they living in a dream? It sure seemed like it.

It was mid-afternoon as they were pulling off Girvin Road into their driveway, and they all of a sudden realized they were someplace very familiar. They parked on the left side of the house near the garage, which sat behind the house and to their right. Home! Nobody had SHOT ANYONE -OR- got shot, and all four of them were safe. Sonny, Deuie, Little Sis, Ronnie and Fletcher jumped off the front porch swing (how did they all fit on there!?) and ran to greet the returning adults,

"Yay! They're home!" Everybody started talking loudly, asking and answering questions. Aunt Vonnie, from inside the house, heard the commotion, grabbed Little Janice and Baby Sis, up in her arms, and walked out onto the front porch, "Land sakes ta Betsy! Y'all musta had the bigginest time ever told at that old wild turkey shoot! And Billy didn't even SHOOT HIMSELF -OR- get shot!? Well Glory Be and I Swan!" and she joined the group of wild jumping kids and chattering grown-ups.  "…and that Mr. Yark," someone was saying. "Is that the feller that…" injected Aunt Vonnie. "No, it's his cousin," someone else said.  "Wait'll I tell Newt (Vonnie' brother-in-law)!" Aunt Vonnie said, and they told her all about what happened at the turkey shoot and that the now famous, Mr. Albey Yark, family, and friends, were coming to their house for Thanksgiving.
