Subject: Question
Elizabeth,
Thank you for writing. Yes, I turned the big 60 although I don’t
feel like I’m 60. I do find that I don’t have as much endurance as I
used to, can’t bike as long, hike as far or play racquetball with as
much vigor but I still do these things. We’ll see if that continues as
I move into the 60’s. No, I don’t really mention UCF, I still think of
myself as a Florida Gator at heart.
I have done a number of therapeutic workshops. Doug Keller has a five
session series on different parts of the body and I’ve done the
neck/shoulders and hips sessions. I keep wanting to do his session on
knees. I’ve have done one with Martin Kirk and another with Todd
Norian. The key to safe yoga without injury is alignment, alignment and
alignment. Without proper alignment you can easily injury yourself or
make an existing injury worse. With proper alignment it can make
injuries better. Yoga really helped my knee injury from playing
racquetball.
My parents are not doing so well so I’ve been trying to get back to
G’ville more often to visit. Dad’s is now 86 and has kidney failure and
goes to dialysis three times a week. Even with that though he does
pretty well and is always busy with something in the garage out
outside. Mom on the other hand has Parkinson’s and is to the point she
can’t get up without help and is either in bed or a wheelchair. I’m
expecting she will have to be put in nursing home this coming year.
The trip with my brother, ahh yes… he’s been bugging me for years to
go on a vacation with him but I’ve been hesitant to do so. Sometimes he
gets off on crazy ideas and won’t let it go to the point the family has
to get up and leave the room. I learned years ago to never ask about
the post office as he will go on and on about how screwed up it is. So
he asked me earlier this year about doing a vacation with him and I said
I’ve wanted to go to New Zealand thinking he would find it too far and
expensive but he said sure and found a 14 day boat cruse that has 7
stops at different ports in New Zealand. It looks like it will be a lot
of fun, one of the stops is the Hobbit Shire movie set. We leave on
Jan. 10th.
No plans for getting married. I dated a couple of women for a few
months each in the past few years but we both decided it was best to
just be friends.
I plan to work for another 5 or 6 years before retiring which then I’ll
sell my house here and probably move back to Florida. I figure I’ll
clear $300 K on the house and then be able to buy a place in G’Ville,
have it paid for and money left over. That along with my retirement
funds and SS (if it’still around) I should be fine.
New cars are really nice but the thought of car payments again makes me
put it off as long as possible. I bought my current Ford Explorer back
in 2005 and only just turned 55,0000 miles on it so I’ll be good for a
few more years. I really like the Subaru’s but find them too small for
what I need. I’ve been really thinking about buying an all electric
car like the Nissan Leaf which I would use for the commute but keep the
Explorer around for trips.
Talking about old teachers, I had a woman ask to be my friend on
Facebook and her name seem familiar but I couldn’t quite place it.
After a while I figured out she was my 7th grade Social Studies
teacher. She was a really great teacher and it was one of my most
remembered classes. She ran across something on my website about the
class and looked me up in Facebook.
Well it was good to hear from you and I hope that 2013 will be a good
year for you.
