David Levy Yulee
In January of 1846 David Levy Yulee offered a resolution in the United States Senate to authorize the President to enter into negotiations for the purchase of Cuba which, “called forth the universal sneer from the Whig press.” (The News, Jan. 9, 1846) The resolution did not pass and the United States did not purchase Cuba.
