Hello Larry By way of introduction: I am Sandra
Joyce Mixon (Barrett-Hughes) Like many others in your guest book comment I
too accidentally came across your Mixson book. Fascinating history.
So, background. I am the daughter of Edwin Burns Mixon (7641),
granddaughter of Eldred Orestes Mixon (1581), brother Edwin Burns Mixon,
Jr. (7650). My grandmother Cynthia Brantley. She and other family
members did two family books , The Mixon Book and the Brantley Book. Lots
of family history, stories similar but not nearly as detailed as your
book(s). I do have a hand drawn pen family tree drawn by Johnnie B.
Mims. in 1978. I believe the Mims were on the Brantley side of the family.
In this family tree it is noted "In 1768, David Mims was one of the four
leaders of TheRegulators in North Carolina, a strong, very active
organization in an era that preceded the American Revolution. On May 16,
1771, The Regulators faced the English army theAlamance River, claimed to
have been the first blow struck for American Independence"
I never have actually researched this but it is always amazing to
trace back one's family genealogy and the possible historical moments
therein.
I just wanted to reach out and say "hello" to someone who possibly
is a 2nd, 3,rd, 4th cousin? It is always a mystery when one starts down
the path of discovering one's ancestry isn't it?
I applaud you and your great effort for the research and for putting in written format the history of the Mixson/Mixon legacy. Something that is sadly getting lost with AI, computer research. Although there is the argument that the outreach with the AI and computer does have merit for finding out the "extra" historical factors.
Great job. I looked to see if the book(s) were still in print and sadly I see that they are not. Keep up the good work. Bless your heart for providing all of us with these materials.

I guess it took me a few too many years to find this website and give proper credit. I'm glad it's a place where we can still discuss our roots. I have been chasing my Megason/Mixson line since 2007... but I had a few kids and took some years off :-) I have traced my line back to Michael Mixson/Megginson using DNA and historical records. This website has been very valuable as a resource and I would be happy to collaborate with any of my cousins on the research.
