Notes:

  • I have not figured out what S.W.A.K. stands for.

  • Morris had been asking what Barbara wanted for a graduation present and so the Saturday before this letter he took her hand and put the ring on her finger.  After giving hime a big kiss, she went to show it to her mother who said, "Well, your're not going to keep it, are you?"

  • Her "speech" is her salutatorian speech for the graduation ceremonies.

Dearest Darling,

Guess what??  Wyndall gave Joyce a ring this afternoon.  They came over a little while ago and showed it to me.  It’s pretty but not as pretty as mine.  I like mine lots and lots better.  Are you sorry you gave it to me yet?  I hope you aren’t cause I’m not giving it back;  I love it so much!!!  Darling it’s so pretty, I don’t see how you picked it out all by yourself.

Well I finished all of my work except Spanish.  I've been practicing my speech all day.

Thursday afternoon is the school picnic over at the Legion.

Darling did you get home all right last nite?

Mom isn’t home (she went to Salt Springs with the trio) and she had all the washing up and it poured rain as we came home from school this afternoon.  Did it ever get wet!! She’ll probably be mad.

I got a real pretty silk scarf this afternoon from the Wards.  I’ll show it to you when you come up.

Have you seen Sue?  If you do tell her we expected a letter from her.  Maybe I’ll write her.

Darling remember your promised you’d write, so I’ll look for a letter this week.  And remember I’ll see you Friday nite about 7.  I still love you lots and lots and forever and ever.

Your finance

I wore my ring today (of course) and everyone just loves it.  Darling I love you.  Be good now.
