Notes:

  • Barbara's first letter from college she writes as if Morris knows she is there.  It might be there is a missing letter which she told him or perhaps he learned from her parents.

  • Interesting that she writes about getting a job and staying.

  • Barbara go her pots by the time they were married and had them her whole life.  After she and Dad died my brother kept the one remaining pot, 70 years later.

My dearest darling,

Well darling we had quite a day today.  All morning we registered – classes start tomorrow.  It’s really lots of fun here.  But I got so hungry I nearly died.  (I don’t like their cooking)  After we registered it was too late to go into town so there’s a big A and P grocery store right across from the church. So we went over there and I bought 1 box of candy, 1 box of cookies, 4 pears, 1 pk. potato chips, and I ate 2 donuts and bought 4 back.  So I shouldn’t starve!

Gosh, I couldn’t sleep last nite at all.  It was so hot!  But now I’m sitting by the window and the least breeze is coming in.      Our classes only last until 12:30.  The bus brings us home then; we eat and then we’re free to do anything until 6 when it’s supper time.  I’m going to try and get me a job later on.  Next month for sure.

I still have to pay for my pots you know.  Darling if I don’t get a job, could you pay the payment on them for the first of Oct.?  I wrote and asked the man to cut down the payments to about $8, a month. So that’s all wit would be.  Darling if you don’t want, please let me know.  But It sure would help.

Well lights out in 15 min. so I have to hurry.

I know you have forgiven me and you still love me.  Remember darling I still love you lots and forever and ever.  I couldn’t stop loving you if I tried, so please wait for me.

Lots of Love,
Your future wife
love & kisses
Barbara

P.S.

  Darling please write me.
I’ll see you in about 2 weeks my honey.
