Dearest Darling,

Well guess you’ll be surprised at what I’m going to tell you.  Its like this.  I’m in the navy again almost.  I go up the 20th to take my phy. Exam and to get further orders.  Guess that lets us out on getting married as you are in St. Pete.  Don’t guess it was ever meant to be us to be married anyway.  If we couldn’t have paid rent on an apartment I know we couldn’t buy a house because after the 17th of this month you have to have 1/3 down payment and we’d have to buy furniture.  Your folks don’t want us to be married either.  I just got back from Jimmie’s and he said I’d better not ever go back down there if I didn’t want to get blessed out.  It that’s the story we wouldn’t ever get along if I didn’t get along with your folks.  I heard about the phone call they made up here and everyone in the county knows.  Jimmie said they asked him to come down their and work.  Wonder if that was all.

Darling, you were right in you letter I do love you but I can’t marry you under present conditions.  It just wouldn’t work.  So I guess you’d better send me the ring before I leave or do some mighty fast changing.  If your afraid to risk a chance on marrying me I don’t guess you’re worth marrying.  The rings aren’t paid for and a payment was doe the 1st of this month which I haven’t made so don’t let me have hem come get them.  Darling I hate to do this but what can you expect.  Your folks are the cause of most of it and you to.     

Well darling I wish you much happiness and the best of luck.  Just remember I would marry you but there’s too much against it.  I would like to see you before I leave but the man said I might have to leave right away.  I guess I wasn’t made to be happy to be by yourself is good sometimes but other times its lonely. .

  Darling the only way you can have me back is to quit school and then I guess you’ll have to come see me.  So please don’t let that happen because I do love you a lot & wish I could have told you this and not have to write out my car is on the blink and I couldn’t see you if you were home.
