Barbara was miserable that week, hardly eating, hardly sleeping and lots of crying, especially every time she reread Morris’ letter. She went every day to see to Dr. Watson, the president of the college and her father’s friend and they prayed together until at the end of the week Dr. Watson called Barbara’s mother and told her that he thought it best that Barbara returned home.
The next day was a rainy and dreary which reflected Barbara’s mood. As she sat in the dormitory staring out the window one of the girls called out to her to come to the front porch. Walking out to the porch she saw, much to her surprise, her parent’s car. With the rain the car’s windows were fogged and she couldn’t see who was in it so she runs out to the car opens the door and found Morris with her mother. When Morris gets out of the car, Barbara says in her memoirs they “fell into each others arms and kissed and kissed and I cried and cried.” Then her mother said, "That's enough. I guess you can come home and get married."
Barbara returned to her dorm room and packed as quickly as she could, put her belongings into the car and they came home.
