Mt. Pisgah is Mom’s most favorite place to visit on the Blue Ridge
Parkway. Every time I would visit them at their cabin at Fort Tatum we
would have to make a trip up to Mt. Pisgah where we would eat lunch.
Saturday - 55° this morning and the sun is out. Took a long walk. Ate lunch, took a nap, read and finished my book. Walked to the Lodge and had supper. Rainbow trout for me and Morris had steak. 7:14 pm raining, watched TV until 11:00 pm.
Sunday – cool all night. Covered with a blanket. Walked to Lodge for breakfast at 10am. Took a walk around campground – got back at 11:00 just as it stated to rain. Talked a long time to some camper from Tampa who retired last year. Had hotdogs with chili; tomato soup and chocolate cake for supper. Read a magazine all the way through today. Watched a movie on TV. Took another walk about 6:30. Went to bed at 10:15. Rained about midnight real hard for the rest of the night.
June 24 – Monday
Roam Mountain State Park $5.50
Left campground at 9am and very, very foggy driving on the parkway. Can’t see a thing. Got to Roam Mt. at noon. Ate lunch in the camper and the fog lifts. Rhododendron almost all gone. Should have been just the right time but the last 3 days rain ruined them. Got to campground about 3pm. 60° out! Met some nice people camping next to us and went over to their motor home after supper and talked for 2 hours. Had a roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables and sliced tomatoes for supper. Went to bed at 10:00 pm – no TV.
June 25 – Tuesday

Left campground at 9:00 and stopped and had breakfast at the campground restaurant. Nice and cool all day. Went through Elk Park, Banner Ele and Boone, then got back on the Parkway. Got to Doughton Park about noon. Parked by a couple from Ocala and another from Pensacola. Took a 2 mile hike though the woods to visit an old cabin! Got back and talked for an hour to our neighbors. Grilled turkey cutlets on the grill, noodles, green beans and sliced tomatoes for supper. Talked some more to our neighbors and watched a movie on TV (Very good reception – no TV at all last night). Cold tonight – about 50°
June 26 – Wednesday
Rocky Knob (BRP) $4.00
Left at 9am. Beautiful drive with lots of rhododendron in bloom. Got to Mabry Mill at 11:00am and ate breakfast – lunch. Spent an hour walking around. Got to campground (only 10 miles from Mabry Mill) at 12:30 – very cool and cloudy all day. Grilled steak outdoors, potatoes, peas and carrots and tomatoes for supper. After supper our neighbor who had a nice fire going invited us over. There were two other couples, one couple who brought their motorhome with them all the way from Germany.
