Martha Jane Ferguson, baby of her family, was the first to marry on the Eighth of March, 1882, to Robert Randolph Ferguson who was the baby in his family. They lived with Elizabeth Mixon until their first child, Nancy Bridget, was one and a half years old, when they homesteaded land next to Elizabeth's land.

Jane and Randolph Ferguson's first house was a log house with a wooden floor, brick chimney, and glass windows. It had two rooms, front porch and a back porch. The kitchen was built separately with a walk connecting it to the house. The Fergusons bought John Mixon's house when he moved to Perkinston. It was lost by fire around 1932.

Robert Randolph Ferguson was the son of Angus and Dicy Cooper Ferguson. He was reared in a house his father built a quarter of a mile southwest of Good Hope Presbyterian Church just across a small branch that ran south of the church and about a mile southwest of the old John Ferguson home. He was county superintendent of education in Perry County, preceding Dr. E. J. Currie. He also taught in the schools of Perry County.

Jane and Randolph Ferguson had four boys in World War I, and a daughter a nurse at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. The youngest son, Robert, wanted to go to war, but Aunt Jane would not sign the papers for him, as he was the last of her boys and so young.
