Ruth LaGrace Mixon, dau. of John Monroe and Julia Hyde Williamson Mixon, was b. Mar. 25, 1895 at Waynesboro, MS, moved with her parents to Ozark, Alabama, when only a lass, d. Feb 16, 1991. In 1907 she joined the Ozark Baptist Church. She became an accomplished musician and served her church faithfully and well as pianist and organist for a period of forty two years. (n Sunday August 30, 1970, her pastor called her to the platform, and by the authority of the church, conferred upon her the honorary title of "Organist Emeritus of the Ozark Baptist Church" and a ribbon containing these words was placed about her neck. As a further honor of her outstanding service, one full page of the Church's Pictorial Directory was used for her picture with the following words of appreciation, "Mrs. Ross H. Thomas, Sr., our church organist, is a dedicated Christian mother, grandmother, musician and poet."


Mrs. Thomas had been presented some silver by the church on two previous occasions, - in 1956 and in 1963.  In 1967 Mrs. Thomas was voted the "Mother mf the Year" for Dale County. On March 12, 1916, she was m. at Andalusia, Alabama, to Ross Henry Thomas b. Sept. 17, 1888 at Lawrenceville, Henry County, Alabama, died at Ozark, Alabama, Feb. 19, 1963, buried in Westview Cemetery, Feb. 21, 1963. He owned and operated a retail mercantile business in Ozark for many years. He was son of Zachary Taylor and Martha Elizabeth Carter Thomas.  Both bur. Westview Cemetery, Ozark, Dale County, AL.  Children:

9390 Ross Henry Thomas, Jr. - b. Nov. 22, 1917 at Ozark, d. Sep 10, 1982, and is a grad­uate of Dale County High School, and a veteran of World War II. As a member of the 251st F.A.Bn, which was attached to the 25th Cavalry, he saw service in the South Pacific at New Guinea, later at Luzon, P. I. On Sept. 14, 1941 he m. Vera Cosby, b. Nov 21, 1916, d. Jul 10, 2012 , a graduate of Orrville, Alabama, High School, and of a local business college. She served for a while with the Red Cross, and has been an active worker in her church.  Both bur. Friendship Cemetery, Donalsonville, Seminole County, GA. Children:

9393 Ross Henry Thomas III, dentist and Eagle Scout - b. Aug. 16, 1942 at a hospital at Enterprise, ALA He is a graduate of Seminole County High School, Donaldsonville, Ga., also graduate of North Georgia College at Dahlonega, Ga., and of the Dental School of Emory University, and has spent two years with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N. C., with rank of Captain. He practices his profession at hs home town of Albany, Ga. On June 28, 1966, he m. Sandra Lynn Palmer, who has a business administration degree from the North Georgia College at. Dahlonega. For two years she was a secretary to a senior vice president of the Trust Company of Georgia in Atlanta. Children'

9394 Cosby Terrell Thomas, an Eagle Scout, was b. May 19, 1947 at a Dothan, Alabama, hospital, and is a graduate of Seminole County High School, - won awards in 1964 and in 1965 as Georgia State Class "B" Declamation champion. Now holds a B. A. degree from Mercer University and is employed by Sears as a department merchandise manager at the Macon, Georgia store. He m. Marlaine Padgett, a graduate of Briarcliff High School in DeKalb County, and is a 1967 graduate of the Electrical Programming Institute in Atlanta. Children:

9391 John Taylor Thomas - b. Nov. 23, 1921 at Ozark, AL, d. Jan 9, 2012, bur. Friendship Cemetery, Donalsonville, Seminole County, GA, is a 1939 graduate of. Dale County High School, and a veteran of World War II, with five years service overseas. He enlisted for a period of one year with a local tank company, which period was automatically extended for an additional four years when war was declared. He saw service in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal, at Vella La Vella, and at Luzon, P. I. It was here he met his brother, Ross Henry Thomas, Jr., they shared the same foxhole together, and then and there made plans for a future partnership in a mercantile business. This material­ized later, and they now have two stores in their home town of Donaldsonville, Ga., and a stare in Ashford, ALA On August 10, 1947, he m. Helen Fuqua, a graduate of Dale County High School and of Troy State University. She is now a classroom teacher in the public schools of Donaldsonville. Children:

9398 John Taylor Thomas, Jr. - b. Oct. 20, 1950 at a Dothan, Alabama hospital. He attended North Georgia College at Dahlon­ega, and in the fall of 1971, he became a senior at the Southwest Georgia College at Americus.

9399 James Henry Thomas - b. Dec. 6, 1953 at a Dothan, Alabama, hospital, graduated in May 1971 from Seminole County High School. In 1972 he was a student at Middle Georgia College at Cochran, Ga.

9400 Joel Franklin Thomas - b. Feb. 28, 1956 at a Dothan, Alabama, Hospital, is now a student at Seminole County High School at Donaldsonville, Ga.
