The Feaster family moved to the Micanopy area around the same time as the Mixsons in the 1850’s with both families coming from South Carolina and settling in Marion county Florida.  With Jacob and Elizabeth Feaster having seven children and James Darlington Mixson having twelve, it could be expected that the families knew each other and would intermix and so it was that Mary Telula Mixson would marry Jacob Wesley Feaster.  As the Mixson’s and Feaster families flourished and grew in the Marion county, Micanopy and Gainesville area in the following years, a tradition was formed of gathering every year under the great oak tree for a family reunion.
