In the winter of 2015 I went
out for a walk and saw
Robert Simon going down the path. Robert Simon designed and
started building Reston in 1964. He said his intent
was to revolutionize the concepts of land use
and residential, corporate development in suburban
America. After Reston's creation
and seeing it grow in the early years, Robert moved away
only to retun to live in Reston in 1993 where he lived in
the penthouse at the top of the Lake Anne Tower.
Robert dearly loved Reston and would often go out for walks. I was
once taking photos at Lake Anne and I turned and he was
standing there. He was happy to stop and talk with me a
minute and he asked me if I was enjoying the day
and we talked for a few minutes.
Althought it was not the first time I met
Robert, it would be the last for he died later that year
at the age of 101.
Sometimes on foggy nights, if you look close, you might see Robert at Lake Anne Plaza sitting on the bench.
