The 1949 year came to a close on a sour note. It started in August after the Juniors returned from their vacation in Michigan with Fred's son Dick. Upon returning Rev. Junior was excited to find the new church building was completed and upon dedication, Rev. Junior held the first baptismal services in it which included Barbara and his son Dick. But, upon learning that their pastor was divorced and had a son from that marriage did not sit well with some of the more conservative members of the church. Oh, and almost as bad, the Reverend was a Catholic at that time. Gossip spread with some wanting the Reverend to be fired or asking him to resign. Rev. Junior conducted services though the end of the year when he resigned. (See more at Flemington Baptist Church and the Mixsons)
Christmas was a happy time for the Junior family with its festivities and the family exchanging their gifts the year came to an end
