Subject: New Year
Well the new year has started and things are a little crazy at work.
Monday I only came in for the morning because I had to take Julie to the
eye doctor for her cataract surgery in the afternoon. The first
day after being gone for a week is always busy with catch up with the
email and latest status of projects. Tuesday I came in late for I had to
take Julie again to the doctor to have her eye patch removed. She
now can see 20/30 in eye without any contacts or glasses. The
doctor said it should improve to 20/20 over the next week. This is
really amazing considering that she has always worn thick glasses or
contacts. She is to go in next month for laser surgery on the
other eye and then no more glasses. She is really excited. I
was scheduled to go to a three day training course Wed (today) through
Friday but it was canceled at the last minute yesterday. Evidently
some head guy in the ATF was having second thoughts about the software
package. This delays the whole project I was to work on
indefinitely so I'm not sure what I'll be working on.
You asked about kayaking, I don't know much but I do know there are two
person kayaks. There are also two major types of kayaks, the very
small white water ones and the much larger "touring" or open water type.
I've seen the white water ones quite a bit at Great Falls on the Potomac
as it is one of the best (and dangerous) places to kayak in this area.
My daughter and her boyfriend have taken lessons with the larger touring
type. These type are more for paddling around ponds, lakes, inland
waterways, bays, etc. I understand they are much safer than white
water kayaks.
Well were supposed to get three inches of snow and then a lot of
freezing rain on top of it last weekend but in the end it was freezing
rain for about an hour then it turned to rain so it wasn't any problem.
It has been really cold since then, low around 10-15 and high yesterday
was about 25. They are saying we might get a little snow tonight,
I hope so.
I know what you mean about the geese. When we lived on the lake
before our current house here I used to really like to see them come in
every night and wake to the leaving in the morning.
The thing with the piano is that the one I really wanted cost about
$3,000 and we didn't have the cash to pay for it and I didn't want to
charge that much. I did really want one though for the little
Casio keyboard I bought was OK to start with but after a year I (even
with my untrained ear) was able to notice that the notes were not true
and even varied in pitch from pressing the key twice in a row.
Also it wasn't a full 84 note keyboard. My new one is a full 84 note
electronic keyboard but the keys have the internal structure of a real
piano so it feels like a real piano and sounds like a real piano.
I still wanted the electronic one because they are a lot easier to move
around and I still wanted to connect it to my computer for the computer
lessons.
I bought a Technics sx-PX224 M digital piano.
