Yes, Compartmentalization is something that I'm good at. That's
one of those therapy terms that I learned from Julie and years of
therapy. Yes, putting money away for retirement at our age
sometimes seems fruitless. I looked at some finical planning
material and it showed that if you start when your 20 and put a few
percent of your salary away you end up with a large amount for
retirement. If you start when I did, around 40, you have to put
about 40% of your salary away to achieve the same result. Of
course you cant put that much away and have anything to live on so your
kinda screwed. As far as jobs go, it always seems to many tradeoffs,
location, salary, freedom, working hours, commute, amount of supervision
and so on. I have not yet found the perfect job but have found,
including my current one, that have a lot of things I like.
Yes we did the ritual. I wasn't looking forward to it but
fortunately Julie kept it short and simple. A few years ago (four
or five) Julie and I did a ritual that was to reaffirm our relationship
in which we went to a spot on a creek in a park and one of the things we
did was intertwine two artificial roses together. So the ritual
this time consisted of going to the same spot and un-twisting the roses
and we each said a few words. Basically, we had some good times, some
bad times and we got a lot from each other over the years but it was now
ending, or actually had been ending for a few years, and is now over.
About, Christmas, I'm not sure. I'm not real sure what I'm going
to do. I'll think about it and let you know. I have to get past
Thanksgiving first.
