The CH is wildly popular apparently. He certainly seems to be
pro-animal, and he's always warning not to do what he does. Re
McDonalds: I just wanted a place to sit and have coffee and read
the paper. With the bagel place closed (a sign on the door said
"unforseen circumstances out of their control"), the choices seemed like
a wasteland, although I could have gone to Barnes and Nobles or Books a
Million, especially for a one time thing. (I didn't go because they are
too pricey and their bagels and cream cheese (one flavor are lousy.
N.Y. Bagel has this wonderful low fat "garden" cream
cheese.) Did you hear about the spy U.S. spy satellites that went
out during Y2K? The isolated incidents, to me, make the "problem"
seem like a very real one, not over-blown as some are now saying.
An independent bookstore I patronize has an e-mail list, and they
offered free copies of the 01-01-00 New York Times to the first 100 to
reply by e-mail. I snagged one, but I didn't think they had 100
persons on the e-mail list. It really wasn't very interesting.
Ironically, I got a copy of the Wall Street Journal's special edition
put in my mail box. It was far more interesting, with a half page
on virtual reality, and discussions of science fiction and how it had
written about the future, etc. I found that strange because the
WSJ is usually far drier than the NYT, but this time the issues were
opposite. NOTHING is happening. The work week has been slow,
and I'm struggling with boredom already. I finally found one of my
radios at home which will pick up NPR inside this building and having
the radio is helping.
