Your Thoughts Are
Elizabeth,
You ask good question, something I have asked myself and thought about
for some time. One hand I was married for 20 years but equally
have lived alone for 20 years (actually more alone than married).
Living with another has benefits and drawbacks. One hand you have
someone to share things with on a daily basis, to do things with, to
explore new things with. On the other hand it is always a
compromise in that you can’t just do what you want, when you want.
You always have to consider the other and sometimes do things they want
when you would rather do something else. On one hand, yes I
miss having someone to share things with, on the other I really like the
freedom do to what and when I want. I was tired and a bit lazy
yesterday so just hung out, took a morning nap, an afternoon nap and had
a glass of wine at 5 pm. With someone else you would have to
consider how they feel and what they want. They might have been
energized and wanted to go out and do something. So you
compromise. I sometimes think that I avoid becoming involved
with women at this time in my life as they would have expectations about
a relationship which I wouldn’t want. Actually for the past
year or two I also avoid becoming involved because I am moving back to
Gainesville and I wouldn’t want to get in a relationship and find that
she wouldn’t want to come with me so I just avoid the situation.
If I really felt like I met that one special life’s true love perhaps it
would be different. I would say that it is just a myth but I have
seen it truly happen to others but don’t expect it to every happen to
me.
