In May I decided to restore a set of Tonka Toy trucks that I had that had originally belonged to my Uncle Corky. When we were boys, David and I got into trouble after playing with them and leaving them in Hogtown Creek that ran behind Grandpa and Grandma Junior’s house. Somehow, over the years Dad ended up with the trucks which he kept in the garage for many years. Some years after Mom and Dad moved into their new house in Blues Creek I spotted them high up on a shelf in their garage but never took them down to look a them. After Dad died and we were cleaning out his garage I found the truck were still there and took them home with me, remembering the time David and I played with them in Hogtown Creek. The trucks sat there on a shelf in my garage just as Dad had done. After my successful restoration of Grandpa Mixson’s antique leather splitter was done I spotted the trucks there on the shelf and decided to restore them. I disassembled the trucks, sandblasted all the pieces to bare metal, repainted them, and then reassembled them. I did have to buy a few missing and broken parts, and in the end they looked like new.
