Flemington Baptist Church
Slow Growth
1936-1946

1936-1942

In 1936 Rev. Cates was still pastor, the longest time the church had a continues pastor at this time.  Rev. Cates continued to serve until the spring of 1940.

1940-1943

In 1936 Rev. Cates continued as the pastor, until he resigned in the spring of 1940 and the church again went through a period of looking for a new paster.  In July 1940, Rev. Lerch preached, then in November 1940 Brother Catledge who resigned in August 1941 and was followed by Rev. Hendry.

Under the guidance of Rev. Hendry the church did better ending the 1943 year with a budget set at $600, pastor salary at $430 (amounting to $17.50 each preaching day), $25 for Missions leaving $155 for the benefit of the Church.   Mrs. Miles Benjamin and Mrs. Maxie Miles Mixson wee appointed to the Church house and grounds committee.

1944-1946

In July Maxey Miles Mixson’s name was submitted for secretary and treasurer but asked for his name to be withdrawn.

On November 5, Rev. Hendry preached his last sermon as he had resigned.  Rev. Hendry had been the longest serving pastor at the church since it’s inception, he was well liked.

Over the following months they tried new pastors, Brother Hagan of Bellview, Rev W.L. Rollins, and then Rev. D.V. McAllister of Deland who was accepted as the permanent pastor in March of 1945.

The church was doing better with the budget being set at $900 in June with $20 for the paster for each preaching day.   Things were looking up and after the customary fifth Sunday in  July of 1945 the church held Dinner on the Ground and took up a collection for a building fund to build a new church.

The church did well under Rev. McAllister’s guidance and grew to a membership of 120 by the end of 1946.  Paster’s salary was now $1172.50 and the building fund had $1153.05.
