Epilog
The Flemington church thrived over the following years and as membership grew additions to the church were built. I remember going there on occasion as a child and have fond memories of dinner on the grounds on the fifth Sunday of the month and going to peanut boils. The last time I was at the church was in 2020 for a funeral of a Feaster.
In June of 1957 Barbara Junior was granted letters by the church to transfer to North Central Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Fred Junior did on occasion preach again at the Flemington as a guest pastor. In 1959 Rev. Junior had a revival under a tent in a vacant lot off 39th Avenue in Gainesville. I remember going there with my family to hear grandpa preach. He would wave the bible in the air, pound on the pulpit, get all red in the face preaching hell, fire and damnation for sinners, building and building, and then pause with the congreation sitting on the edge of their pews, pull a handkerchief out of his coat pocket, mop his brow, and then in a quiet voice say “Let us pray” as the sermon came to a close. The congregation raised funds and built the Oak Hill Baptist Church (also known as the Baptist Tabernacle) on the site. My sister, brother and I were Baptized by Grandpa there in 1960. The story about Barbara being baptized above is based on my own experience.
