He was the son of William and Julia Harris Mixson, b. in Monroe County, GA, October 1, 1835, d. in Coffee County, AL, Jan 9, 1914, bur. Haw Ridge Cemetery, Dale County, AL. He was m. (1) to Melinda Narcissa Stokes, b. Sep 6, 1843, d. Oct 10, 1882, bur. Haw Ridge Cemetery, Dale County, AL, by whom all his children were born. Brazillo m. (2) Mrs. Harper, a widow.

Henry Josephus Mixson 54th AL Infantry Regt., CSA Enlisted 1861; captured at Island No. 10, imprisoned at Camp Douglas until 1862, exchanged.), son of William and Julia Harris Mixson, was born in Monroe County, Georgia, Nov 3, 1839, d. Apr 12, 1930, bur Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, Coffee County, AL His grave was moved from Ebenezer Zion Church Cemetery to Old Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery when Fort Rucker took over the area.

John Elijah Mixson, Planter, son of William and Julia Harris Mixson, was b, in Monroe County, GA, Jan 7, 1844, d. in Coffee County, AL, May 14, 1914, bur. Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, AL.. He was a Confederate Soldier, member of Company "H", 53rd AL Cavalry.

 

On Jan 24, 1868, he was m. to Elmira Cole, dau. of Lorenzo J. and Amanda Harper Cole (latter was a dau. of Judge William Harper, one of the early Probate Judges of Dale County when it embraced Coffee and Geneva Counties). Elmirah Cole was b. Mar 10, 1848, d. Sep 27, 1924, bur. Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, AL, dau. of Lorenzo Jackson and Amanda Cole. Mr. Mixson was named John for his grandfather’s brother and Elijah for his grandfather, Elijah Mixson, Jr., of Beaufort County, NC
