466 MICHAEL MIXSON, WILLIAM MIXON (5), JOHN MIXON III (3), JOHN MIXON II (2), JOHN MIXON I
Michael Mixson, planter, Revolutionary soldier, listed in Beaufort District of SC in the 1790 census, received a land grant for 106 acres in 1798 located on Whippy Swamp, Salkehatchie River. The 1790 census lists him, 1 male 45 and over, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 10-16, and 1 female 45 and over. As Abraham Mixson, b. 1774, s. of Michael, could have just married, the younger female could have been his wife; otherwise she would have been the dau. of Michael. Michael either died or moved elsewhere soon after, as he is not shown in later censuses.
Apparently two different Michael Mixsons (besides Micha Mixon and Michael Mixon, father of Capt. Francis Mixon) applied for pay for services rendered during the Revolution. One Michael Mixson was s. of William Mixson (see #5) of Kershaw County who made a will dated Jan 1, 1778. While Michael Mixson of Beaufort could have been that son, however without more definite information now known, no effort will be made to place this Michael Mixson definitely at this time.

Judge Folks Huxford in his "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia" names two of the sons of Michael Mixson (he could have had other children), the sons are listed below:

468 GEORGE MIXON, WILLIAM MIXON (5), JOHN MIXON III (3), JOHN MIXON II (2), JOHN MIXON I (1)
George Mixon, planter and Revolutionary soldier, son of William and Frances Mixson, was b. in North Carolina, probably Craven County, ca. 1748, d. probably in Orangeburg District, SC, before 1810.
In 1785, he sold his lands in Kershaw County left him by his father, moved down to the south fork of the Edisto River, Orangeburg County, just over the line from Barnwell, and obtained several tracts of land totaling over 1000 acres. Early records of Orangeburg are gone and it is not possible to know the date of his death or who inherited his lands. It is known that Adriel Mixon (perhaps the oldest son) was in that area in 1810 and 1820 censuses.
On Nov 18, 1791 George Mixson filed claim for 35 days service in Capt. Magee’s Company, and 45 days service in Capt. Willis Whitaker’s Company (both of General Marion’s Brigade), and submitted the following order:
“This is to certify that Geroge Mixon is discharged by order of General Marion to go home till further order. This 7th, July 1781. (Signed) Elisha Megee, Capt.”
Census:
1800 Orange, Orangeburg District, SC, males under 10:2, males 10-15:1, females 10-15-1, females 45 and over:1
