William Wesley Mixon, Jr., s. of William Wesley Mixson and Mary Ann Pollock, b. Mar 1, 1831, near Mobley's Point located in the northwest corner of Screven County, GA, d. Aug 11, 1897, bur. Oaky Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Wrightsville, Johnson County, GA.
'W.W. Mixon was the City of Wrightsville's first Mayor in 1886. He was also the city's first postmaster. He was the Ordinary of Johnson County for twenty years. The lumber for the First Methodist Church was sawed at Mixon's sawmill. He was one of the original trustees of the Wrightsville First Methodist Church created in 1870 and officially organized in 1882. He was the owner of the first cotton gin in Wrightsville which stood where the Lovett Gin is now standing." In addition to the above mentioned he owned much property in the City of Wrightsville and Johnson County and had other business interests in the community. William W. enlisted in Company "G", 57th Regiment, Washington County, GA as a private on May 6, 1862. He was wounded in the leg at Baker's Creek, MS, May 16, 1863, and was appointed color bearer in Apr 1864.
