Mixon-Mixson Genealogy

CORNELIUS 703

703 CORNELIUS MIXSON, JOHN MIXSON IV (6), JOHN MIXSON III (3), JOHN MIXSON II (2), JOHN MIXSON I (1)

Cornelius Mixson, s. of John Mixson IV, and his wife, was b. in the Welch Tract, east side of Peedee River, ca. 1745, and it is believed he was the Mixon killed in a battle between the Tories and Whigs at the mouth of Black Creek on August, 1781. He was one of the four Mixons signing up as members of the Volunteer Company under Capt. Robert Lide in 1775. He did not ask for service pay in the Revolutionary Army as the other Mixons did. (Jesse Mixon did not ask for pay, however he was in Georgia about 1785). The 1790 census does list one Cornelius Mixon, 1 male over 16, with three females, and in the 1800 census, one Cornelius Mixon is in Barnwell District of SC, age 16-26;2 males under 10;2 females under 10; 1 female 10-16; and 1 female 16-26.

One source of information says Cornelius Mixon was b. in 1773. If so, he would have been 16 and over in 1790, and 26 or over in 1800, which fits the Mixon listed in the 1790 census and 1800 census. This would probably be Cornelius Mixon, Jr. Note, too, there was only 1 male in the family in 1790. Possible descendants are picked up in the miscellaneous section of this book.

Note: JLM in his book above speculated that Cornelius had a son named Cornelius which I (LMM) I have shown below. Although there is no clear evidence, it seems likely
