Yes you were being somewhat vague with reference to "the person", "met them", "they inform". I did wonder if the person was male or female. I also do not want a "triangle" but establishing and maintaining a friendship with you does not form a triangle. I sense some mixed emotions about relationships in that paragraph. Total freedom in a committed relationship an interesting concept. In such a relationship one can always choose to do whatever one wants for oneself. But in a committed relationship one has made a commitment to the relationship and the other person and as such one consciously may give up some "freedoms" that may hurt or damage the relationship or other person. This is the "responsibility" I believe you are talking about. I believe the key is the "consciously" part. The type of relationships I am talking about are between two mature, responsible, trusting, considerate adults. This is the type of relationship I believe I have with my wife. Speaking of triangles, have you seen the TV show Ali McBeal?
 
I find your experience with the insight meditation weekend amusing for we had the same experience. I thought it was to be some discussion, mediation, experience nature, etc. It turned out to be no talking, reading, and limited food. I did enjoy it but the life of a monk is not for me.
