Subject: Re: Conversational lag
I was thinking that we might run into a conversational lag after our
initial exuberance and catching up. That's will probably work out for me
as next week I am supposed to start my new job and might not be able to
get email for a few days nor reply every day. I'll keep you posted as to
the change in email address.
We also have had a big change in the weather as we were in the 60's and
even hitting 70 it was in the teens last night and highs yesterday in
the low 30's. Many of the flowers, cherry blossoms, etc. were started to
come out and may be hurt by the cold. I was talking to Dad last night
and he said that he heard that all the peach trees in Georgia were hurt
and they may not have any peaches this year.
That book "The Wall" sounds interesting, you will have to let me know
how it turns out.
I am not sure where the line between hobbies and activities lies so I
looked up the definition of hobby. The dictionary says a hobby is "a
pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in esp. for
relaxation." Walking, used bookstores, etc. could all be hobbies by this
definition. I know what you mean though, many people would say
woodworking is a hobby while racquetball is an activity. As for
racquetball burning calories, I find it really does. I usually play
three nights a week for two hours each night. I play at the A/B level
which is the better players in the club. I don't know how many calories
I burn but I play at a really intense level. I sometimes I over do it
and can hardly walk up the stairs when I get home.
The way your father died would really bother me if it was my father. Not
really knowing what he died from. I find that I call my parents and talk
to my father more now then I did in the past because I feel that he
could have a heart attack and die suddenly and I would feel bad if I had
not talked with him in months. It is interesting that I gave him my old
computer and he now spends hours playing games on it. He often will call
me up and ask me how to do something on it. I have really enjoyed the
extra contact with him.
As I was writing this note I got great news, I just got my bonus check
for last year (they always give them out in March for some reason) but
that is not the best of it. My boss said that I could get a lay off
package if I was interested. I told him last November that I would take
a layoff package if they were laying people off. They did lay a bunch of
people off by not me, damn it. Since then I been sitting here with
nothing to do so why didn't they lay me off? Well, now I start the new
job next week and will be getting 3 or 4 months of layoff pay. Couldn't
have worked out better. Now I can buy that new electronic piano I
wanted.
Till tomorrow,
Larry

my story about being laid off.
*I had been doing piano lessons the past year using a cheap
hundred-dollar Casio keyboard connected to my computer using a
MIDI interface and the
Musicware Piano Personal Piano Teacher software. While it was ok to
start with, I was finding limitations with it as it was only about three
octaves while a full size piano had 7¼ octaves and the 2nd course book
having lessons that I couldn’t do on the Casio, I had been thinking
about getting a full sized piano keyboard. I also found I really liked
it and was getting good enough that I could read and play simple tunes.
