Just a quick note while I'm logged into HM. So you are leaving this
Wednesday for Florida. I think the smoke and fires are clearing up
some. Apparently it has been pretty bad.[1]
I left a little early on Friday to catch the X-files movie. It was
clever at spots, and I enjoyed it, but I think it lacked the intimacy
which comes across in the television show, i.e. the characters felt more
remote to me. I read a review of Truman which said it was really a
vapid movie. I thought it was clever, but not really profound myself.
I went to a creative writing workshop last night. I may be able to
keep going as it is only going to meet every two weeks, and will not
meet for three more weeks after this first session, because of the July
4th holiday.
I didn't hear from the lawyer in St. Pete yet. Last time it took a
week to hear from him, and I sort of hoped I would hear Saturday, but
did not. From what I've learned in law school and from my own
research, and I may be repeating myself to you, if my mother did "title"
all her accounts to my sister, if that is true, then the only possible
action or case I would have is to sue my sister in civil court for
interference in MY expected inheritance. Not all states allow that
action, but Florida has for some time. Usually though such
interference occurs when there is a will and someone induces an older
person to change that will and cut a person out (and include them).
My case is weaker in that regard, although in some ways I think it is
strong because my sister did have a fiduciary relationship to my mother
and my mother was incapacitated--although my sister claimed "in a clear
moment" my mother told her "to sell."
Tried to catch up on law school this weekend, but am still behind.
Most of us tape the lectures, and once you get behind on listening to
them again, it takes quite a while to catch up. I plowed through
some of the tapes, just to get more organized, but I still haven't
briefed my cases for this week.
Well, I have to go. I thought it was nice that this morning a
physician called me to thank me for some fast, quick research I did for
him Thursday evening. I ended up staying "over" to do it, but that
sort of balanced the last few days when I've dragged in 5-10 min. late.
Have a good day--smiley face and all. Elizabeth
[1] The 1998 Florida wildfires, sometimes referred to as the Florida Firestorm, resulted after draught in Florida resulting in several large “forest” fires. I put forest in quotes for much of what was burning was thousands of acres of pine trees planted most for pulp wood to make paper.
