I'm looking forward immensely to the three day weekend. Also, I
don't have class tonight, so that's an extra break. The AL
Republican run-off primary was last night and the same person who is in
office now won. He'll face the Democratic candidate in Nov. Once
at a speech when evolution was discussed, the current governor started
scratching his ribs and acting like a monkey to dispute evolution.
It's all ludicrous.
I walked again this morning at 5:30. I almost put it off because I
could walk this evening, not having class, but went on out and was glad
I did because there was a breeze and there were pink clouds in the sky.
Even so, after 30 minutes I was dripping. But, at least the sun
isn't glaring and it's tolerable.
One of my friends came by work yesterday and gave me a gift of a framed
photographic print. It was quite a surprise. She was a
little bit questioning whether I would like it, but she felt it was
appropriate to where I am in life. She didn't know who the
photographer was. It's rather unusual. At the top are sort
of mild storm clouds, but the sun is about to break through, but that
scene is juxtaposed onto a room which is sort of a study with
bookshelves on one side and a fire place on the other. In the
center is an old fashioned desk with a book open on it and a small
figure of a human walking on the pages of the book. It's very
interesting and I like it. It was strange because she is the
friend who often seems to "let me pay" when we go out, although that's
perhaps not always true (she treated me to a fair ticket, etc.) We went
out for just coffee the other evening, and the waitress came by once
again to ask if we didn't want anything to eat. I said, "Would you
like to split a pizza." She did, but when it came time to pay, she
sort of said, "Do you need me to contribute anything to the bill."
It was rather small as we just had a small pizza, and I just told her to
leave the tip, but I always thought "split" meant split in cost not just
eating. I don't haggle it though. I've sort of learned when
I am really short of money to announce up front "I'm broke today."
Interestingly she is from Holland, Dutch, and I often think about the
"dutch treat" concept.
One nice thing about getting up early is I get to work on time, and I
also have time to read in the morning. After I walk, then shower,
and cool down, it's still only about 6:30-6:45, and so I can read until
7:00. I've collapsed the task of making my lunch into listening to
the 7:00 a.m news which I've always liked to do. I don't bother
with breakfast, just milk and vitamins, then eat when I get here.
Well--I'm always trying to work out the "perfect routine" because there
are so many conflicting things I like to do. Well, people are
coming in for a meeting (the new residents) so I need to go. Happy
4th. I'm off Friday. EJ
