Subject: More of This is What I Did
or Am Doing
I know. I feel the same about the content of what I'm writing.
At first I think we both had time to explore more our views, feelings,
and thoughts, but now that we are both usually busy, we both are sending
shorter, "this is what I did" or "this is what I'm doing" notes. I
think though that helps keep each of us "up" on what we are doing or not
doing in our lives--so that if we do have time to explore our thoughts
in depth at a later time, there is a context for that, having shared the
day in and day out.
See--Often I get concerned that life becomes just "day in and day out"
even though I fill it with, or try to with things I enjoy. You
seem to be able to take more "away" breaks, such as your upcoming trip
to Pennsylvania. You may have more freedom though, as mine is lost
to school, and you may also have more disposable income as well, as mine
is currently lost to school as well. When I wasn't in school I was going
on retreats and things like that a little more regularly.
At any rate, while being busy, I've been trying to identify some trip or
activity I could go do when my largest break of the entire year will
arrive--that's from August 18 (Tues.)( my last final is the 17th) until
about August 31st (Mon.) when classes start again (I'm not certain if I
will have a Monday class though). I was hoping to find a Sierra Club
trip or short excursion, but none of the dates quite match--the final I
have on the 17th a Monday screwed up all the possible end of the summer
trips Sierra has, as most of them start the weekend before. I'm
been debating several excursions--even Washington, but have also given
thought to Chicago or even Toronto. The trouble is, except for
Washington, I've been to those places--but I loved them and could stand
going back. I've also thought of the Grand Canyon, but I would
have to make up my mind rapidly to stand any chance of getting a room.
Oh Well. I just don't want to fritter it away by staying here,
although I may end up doing "day trips" of some sort. (The Versailles
Exhibit is in Jackson, Miss. for example. There's a neat park in
North Alabama which I haven't seen yet for another example.) I
also thought I might go to the closest part of the Appalachian Trail and
just do a little piece of it, just day hiking. One of the students in
law school ran up there a week or two back on his motorcycle and said he
didn't take anything but his boots--for the freedom of it all.
Sleepy today, but it was worth it. PBS did a special on Sam
Shephard and followed up with one of his plays, which unfortunately
lasted until midnight. It was incredible though. I was lucky
and got out of class at 5 til 9 and literally ran down stairs to leave
so I could get home in time to watch it which I did. Also, the night
before there was a rather bizarre Dutch film called The Vanishing which
I caught on Bravo.
Hope you get the system figured out. I'm glad it's you and not I
that has to do it. My minor computer problems around here are
enough. When I came back from the 4th someone had screwed up both
my printer and the one in the outer library area and I had to spend part
of the morning getting them back to the status quo. Elizabeth
Otherwise--I'm already in final prep mode and a big weight is I have a
paper to write, thankfully brief, 7 pages, but still I have to do it.
