Subject: Vacation
Finally I'm shaping up a sort of vacation. I keep saying "I love
opera" but the truth is I've never been to a real live one.
Huntsville has a good regional opera company and I found on the net that
La Traviata is being performed, the last night is Aug. 29th, which is my
last weekend before school. I just reserved a ticket. It's a
very popular opera. The next day there is a quilt exhibit opening
at the Huntsville Museum, which I can go see and as well they have a
"Red Clay" exhibit on S.E. artists in mixed media. I'd heard about
a meteorite exhibit out at the Space Center in Huntsville, so I'll work
that in. Also, I've always been interested in space exploration,
so I might tour the whole place. Also, they have an enormous botanical
gardens with biospheres, etc. That should be fun. Huntsville
is one of the towns I've thought about moving to if I stay in Alabama,
but I've only been there once for a library presentation and didn't see
much. As you may know, the town drew heavily on European
immigrants during the war to do rocket research etc. and because of that
it's always been a "cerebral" town--their library is excellent, etc.
There's another state park up that way which is great as well, but I'll
have to look at a map, and also decide how many days off I might want to
take. It's nice because the opera is on Sat. night, and the museum
exhibit is on Sunday, so I won't have to use vacation days for those.
I could possibly just one or two days and have a good four or five day
trip. I may pass on the Versailles Exhibit.
Anyway, I feel better. I just HAVE TO get out of this town before
I go crazy. Elizabeth
