Subject: Energy
Interestingly I noted a lift in my energy today, and I'm wondering
whether it relates to not having class tonight, as the prof had to be
out of town. The temperature dropped some as well though, in fact
significantly. Last night it was almost cool. Yesterday I
was so exhausted it was agony to get through the day and go on to class.
I don't think I knew you dived, but it sounded sort of familiar. I
was wondering one time that you seem to pick or choose interests and
stay with them (biking, r ball, etc.), but I guess that's one you let go
of.
So will this be the trip on--what is it--Old Rag (?)--your annual Fall
trip. One thing that took me by surprise in Alabama is the true
sort of mountainous areas, as I had no idea N. AL was considered the
southern most tip of the Appalachians.
Well, wonder what will happen with the Clinton thing. Somebody is
lying.
I'm going to take advantage of not having class and go to a movie at the
"alternative" theatre tonight--they show all the good films which
usually never make it here. High Art is playing. Actually, I
thought it was playing last week, and dragged myself to the theatre on
what I thought was the last night, because I wanted to see it, but it
hadn't started yet. I was sitting down in the movie and the wrong
movie started. It was the Last Days of Disco. I tried
valiantly to get interested in it, but simply could not. Also, it gave
me a feeling of being totally out of it in respect to whatever culture
was being portrayed--young people in the 80's. I left after about 10
minutes. I regretted it because I had used my last free pass--I
get two free passes with my membership, so now I'll have to pay five
bucks. I was going to go the movie Thursday, but that's the one night
the art museum stays open late. Usually I'm too tired to go after
three nights of classes, but they have a very unusual 60's art
exhibition with Warhol and artists like that which I would like to see.
Then the weekend will be buckling down to studying big time.
I feel my vacation slipping out of my grasp because of nothing
materializing. I think I will go to DeSoto Falls though, possibly
just for a night. I'll go to Mobile for the conference, then
POSSIBLY swing up to Jackson, Miss that weekend for the Versailles
exhibit, if I can get a ticket, because that's the last week it will be
there. That puts me close to the Natchez Trace which is very
interesting, but I've already driven large sections of it. It
would be great on a bike, if you're in shape. It's a pretty drive,
but that's not what I want to do.
There is a healing retreat a little later in Sept. which I would like to
attend, which is close by, just on the GA border, so perhaps I'll look
forward to that. Also, my VW is weighing on my mind. The
longer it sits, the more impossible it feels to ever resurrect it.
I used it regularly when I first moved here and it was running fine, but
when I had to start taking the interstate to my public library job I
started letting it sit. I took it around the block to charge the
battery, but then last winter or so I unfortunately let it sit.
The car has little practicality here without air con, except it would be
okay in the winter. AL roads are packed with logging trucks. In
fact the demise of the car in my eyes was added to in part when a huge
truck literally ran me off the road on the interstate. I was going
to Georgia from Alabama to a Native American festival and he passed me
and cut in too soon. Scared the hell out of me because he just
pushed me straight off the road onto the shoulder. I stopped and
was shaking to death. He DID stop--he said his "partner" said "Hey
I think you ran someone off the road." Anyway it sort of crunched,
but mildly that side of the car. Then, to top it off, when I was
camping I backed into a tree. I told the trucking insurance
company that was his "dent" too. Before that, when I very first
came here, some idiot crammed the back of the VW--it was immaculate at
the time and I was sick. But I kept the money instead of getting
it repaired. So, in some ways its "junky" which I really hate.
I'm thinking of buying a small 200 dollar chest freezer. I think
grocery prices will absolutely skyrocket this year. EJ
