Subject: X-Files
I hope that despite the turmoil in your household, that is if Julie went
through with her plans, that you were able to either watch or tape the
X-files. It wasn't an outstanding episode, but I'm glad the new
season has started. You may have heard that the show is now being done
in Calif, not Canada, which gives it a "brighter" look. I really watch
very little t.v., and I sort of missed the X-files during the summer. My
t.v. watching is down to E.R., The Practice, and the X-files, but on
Friday nights I watch ALL the news shows straight through (CBS, Alabama
Reports, Lehr Newshour--oh I forgot I've been watching the Millenium
since the new season--then Washington Week in Review). T.V. Guide
advertised a web site voting, where you can vote on your favorite
episodes of the X-files. On Thanksgiving Day there is supposed to be a
showing of the "12 Best Episodes" in part based on the votes.
My weekend, was totally writing a law school paper. It is not due
until Nov. 25th before Thanksgiving, but I "pretended" it was due this
Monday, so I would be motivated to just get it done. I worked all
day Saturday and Sunday, but I did walk, and do a couple of loads of
wash. My "reward" was watching the X-files, then The Practice.
I thought about you when I stopped working on my paper, when I took my
walks, etc. I think at some level I don't like the fact that much
of life is "unpredictable," that things can happen about which we don't
have any control. Sometimes relationships are that way, even
though we have a part in them, we can't, at some level, "control" them.
It bothered me about my knee recently, that despite losing weight,
taking megavitamins, and walking very regularly, nevertheless my knee
"flared up." I realized that I may not be able to control that,
and will have to live with the unpredictability.
Oh, I forgot--part of the plot of X-files involved "dormant DNA."
That was a big theme in the recent Sawyer book I read, called
Frameshift. The character studied DNA, and in another parallel to
the X-files, his wife could mind-read--which was due to an activation of
part of her DNA which in most humans isn't active. I am suspecting
strongly that the X-files got a little of its plot development from the
Sawyer book.
Well, back to work. Elizabeth
