Subject: Nothing New
Nothing much new, except our weather turned dreary, wet and cold, quite
a bummer. I don't mind cold quite as much if there is sun. I
always forget about Alabama's climate changes. I had been thinking
I might travel up to one of the parks in N. AL for a night or two, but
now that it is icy, I heard the interstates were closed last night, etc.
I can have Thursday off if I want, it’s up to me, and I'm thinking I
won't be here tomorrow. My boss stopped by and asked me what my plans
were about working, but I told him I really hadn't decided. He
said the rest of the Dept. would probably be off Thursday, so that would
be okay if I was off as well. (I am in the Education Dept.) I
don't eat or buy things like sausage much anymore, but I got sort of a
desire to have sausage balls. A secretary in Tuscaloosa used to make
them every Christmas. (Did I already write this?) I had never had them
before moving to Alabama.
Basically they are ground sausage, cheese, and flour, rolled in balls
and baked (cholesterol city). I bought the stuff to do it and
planned to last night, but wasn't motivated. I just watched the
news,, puttered, fixed pasta prima vera (my version), and read
Poisonwood Diary. I did watch the conclusion of an A & E English
mystery, but for some reason I couldn't follow some of the "ah ha"
conclusions of the detectives, so it didn't make some sense. I
noticed last night I was a tiny bit down. Montgomery has some
gorgeous homes, even extravagant ones, right in the area where I live,
and some of them were decorated out the yazoo, some quite tastefully,
but also made for the world to see. I felt as if I were in a
different world, mainly socioeconomic status or something. But
then, on the Lehr newshour there was news essay about the homeless in
San Francisco. Apparently the city has good climate and there is a
tolerance to the homeless, so the city streets have become virtually
homeless "bedrooms." Everything is relevant I guess. When I
was thinking about going to N. AL., I pondered about asking you whether
you might want to meet me up there, but I wasn't certain that would be
appropriate to your situation. I wasn't sure you want or need to get
away. It hasn't sounded like it. One place in N. AL has a
wonderful lodge overlooking a lake and all the migratory birds fly in
this time of year, although now might be a little early. I've
planned to go for some time. I should have gone last summer
instead of driving over to that place that turned out to be the pits.
Well, I'm almost finished with Poisonwood Bible--really good. I
even brought it to work. I thought I might finish it at lunch and
drop it back by the library on the way home, in case someone else might
want to have it to read over the holidays. Elizabeth--Oh P.S. We
have a bulletin board here at work and someone put up for sale an
electrical piano. It says it is computer compatible, but they are
asking 1000. Did yours cost that much?
