Subject: Snow and hearts
Yea, shoveling snow is pretty hard work and when the couch potatoes get
out once or twice a year and do such strenuous work they have heart
attacks. As you said you hear about it every year when you hear
how many people die in a major storm there is always a few who do so
while shoveling.
I know what you mean about the lake and how it changes color. When
we lived on the lake I always enjoyed it for it was different every day.
You had asked about the ATF web site I put together but it is only on
their internal intranet and requires passwords to get to. The
documents are field agent reports (kinda like police reports) about
arsons, bombings, gangs, etc. so they contain "sensitive" information.
It is quite interesting to do searches and find what they have on
various gangs, people places. As you could imagine the Unibomber[1]
had quite a list.
Yes I've hiked a fair amount of the Appalachian Trail (or AT as it is
often referred to) in Virginia. The AT runs along the Skyline
drive which we go to every year. Most of the hikes we do are side
trails that either start from the AT or connect to the AT. My
brother hiked on it for three months starting in Georgia and going to
Vermont following the progression of spring north. His journal
makes interesting reading.[2]
We are getting freezing rain this morning but the roads were OK so I was
able to get to work without any problem. Cars left out are getting
coated with ice. I parked in the parking garage so I won't have to
chip off the ice when I go home. Not much else going on.

[1] The Unibomber, as
Ted Kaczynski
was known before they caught him, had sixteen bombings from 1978-1995.
[2] In 2022 David asked me to type up his
Appalachian trail journal and I agreed. I scanned into the computer the
journal pages, then bringing them up on the screen, typed each page into
a Word document while David sat next to me correcting and interpreting
his handwriting. We probably spent 40 hours over the next few weeks
before it was completed.
