Subject: Diet, careers and more
Diet, yuk! I understand the need though. I have tried a
couple of diets before, mainly because Julie was doing it. I
really hate to diet, or at least a "structured" diet. I do have to
watch my weight constantly now or else I gain easily. I usually
weigh myself at the club when I play racquetball three times a week so
it gets monitored petty close. If I play three times a week and
eat my usual diet I will stay constant. If I don't play as much or
eat out more I'll gain a few pounds (like now!). What I usually do
is cut back on eating out or just get a salad (Julie and eat out once or
twice a week). I also will just eat something light for dinner and
perhaps just one of those dry soups for lunch and after a week will be
back to my regular weight. Yes, getting older is no fun.
It does sound like you might have been a little abrupt with the woman
who said you were fired, particularly the way you just walked away.
It would seem you could have handled it more "gently" but you did make
your point and set her straight that you were not fired. Because
you seem bothered by should tell you something.
I like the virus types of books too. I finished the one I was reading
this past weekend and it was quick easy reading with a lot of action.
In the end though it was a little shallow and a bit un-realistic in the
end. There is a true case virus book about an Ebola type virus
that swept through all the monkeys in a research center here in Reston.
It turned out the virus did not infect humans but was fatal to the
monkeys. They tore down the building a couple of years ago because
no one would lease it. (see
Outbreak, 1989)
If you are running Netscape you can save your bookmark file which can be
found in the Netscape directory called bookmark.htm. Copy this
file to a floppy disk and you can restore it in the future. If you
use Microsoft Internet Explorer you have to save the directory
"Favorites" usually in the Windows directory.
I'm reasonably content but I often feel like a Dilbert, just a cog in a
wheel in the corporate environment. I generally like what I do,
working with computers building systems. But I still work for
someone else. Getting another job is easy enough to do, I've never been
at a single job for more than 5 years. I have somewhat of an
entrepreneur sprit, I did work as an independent contractor 13 years
while in Melbourne but, now, like you, I do like to have some finical
stability and that is somewhat risky being an independent. I would
like to have my own business but not contracting. Contracting puts
you at the whims of who you contract for. I would really like to
have some sort of business which I had some product. A web based
business really interest me recently. The problem is I have never
really found the right thing. Someday perhaps.
Enough for now, Larry
