Subject: Bad 2 a.m. Weather
We had a bad storm front move through after midnight. I was up for
a while, as the tornado sirens were on. Mostly I sorted papers,
after rounding up my keys, wallet, glasses, etc. I've heard there
was damage, but it was too late to make the papers. Otherwise, not
much new to talk about. I have some interest in seeing the Barbara
Walters interview of Monica Lewinsky tonight, just because I want to
know what she sounds like, not because I'm interested in her story per
se. I think it is horrible about those tourists to Africa being
killed by rebel fighters. On the other hand, this has been going on a
while and I wonder why they were over there. At one point I
wouldn't have minded going to Africa, and I'm intrigued by people who
left Europe to go there, including many women who lived and wrote there
(Out of Africa). I think that is now a "never will." The
country is rampant with AIDS and the wildlife areas I would have liked
to have seen are politically dangerous. I had some friends in
Tuscaloosa who went to Kenya a while back. I sort of envied her
going, but she went with her husband who was a professor. I'm
still trying to finish the Cobra Effect and Dickens is still hanging out
there. I've renewed it so many times, they probably will not let
me renew it again. This weekend I threw out my futon. It
proved to be a wasted purchase. It turned out to be hard as a rock
after a while and I had to buy foam to put on top of it. I
wouldn't have actually thrown it out, but I think the cotton batting
also had some sort of insecticide or something on it, as it had a smell
which never quite dissipated. I got fearful that I was being
exposed to the chemical, and along with the foam, I thought it all might
be contributing to my sinus/allergy problems. So I chucked it all
this weekend, which was difficult because I had a hard time dragging it
out to the dumpster. I thought I would sleep on my sofa bed until
I make a different sleeping arrangement, but when I tried it out, it was
pretty uncomfortable, so I just slept on the couch. What I want is
a platform bed as I hate box springs, etc. Well, just chattering.
I need to pick up my mail.
