Subject: Jury and Strange Weather
I have been called up for jury duty twice. The first time was in Florida
and I called up for Grand Jury duty. At the time I was doing
contract work so anytime taken off for jury duty was time I didn't get
paid. What is really bad is that Grand Jury duty goes for six
months. Also it was in Orlando so I had to travel an hour to just
get there. I sent a letter to the clerk of the court stating what
a hardship it would be but the judge turned it down. As it turned
out I went the first day and they drew numbers from a hat to select
about 25 people out of the 100 or so called up. I got lucky and
didn't get selected. The second time I got called up was here in
Virginia. It was for regular court and I got called up in
December. The duty here runs for six weeks in which each week you
call a number to see if you have to go in that week. Again I got
lucky, two weeks I didn't get called, then there was Christmas and new
year holiday weeks they were closed then one week we got snow and they
were closed so again I didn't have to serve. I do think it would
be interesting to serve at some time but it does take a fair amount of
time out from work and some cases, as you know, can run on for weeks or
even months.
I spent all day yesterday downtown at the ATF. It was supposed to rain
all day, 100% chance but I got down there around 10am. I drove
instead of taking the metro. I had to do some maintenance on one
of the systems we have at one ATF facility and then I had another
meeting at 3pm at the ATF HQ facility. I was glad it didn't rain
for I parked a couple of blocks from the HQ facility and then walked
about 6 blocks to where I had to do the system maintenance. I
finished the maintenance around 1pm and was quite hungry (I usually eat
right at 12pm) so I went by this micro brewery that is downtown and got
a salad. I then still had an hour until my 3pm meeting so I went
to a small park across from the ATF HQ and just sat on a bench and
enjoyed the afternoon. As I said it was supposed to rain but it
turned out to be around 60 degrees and somewhat sunny although it was
very windy. My 3pm meeting was short so I got out by 3:30 and was
able to drive home before the HOV lanes started and got home a little
past 4. I did finally started to rain after I finished racquetball
around 7:30 and it really rained hard. I wasn't feeling to well so
I skipped Yoga and went home where they had a severe storm warning with
winds around 30mph gusting to 50mph. The winds bought in a cold
front and when I got up this morning there was a light coating of snow
on everything which they didn't predict at all.
I really didn't want to see or hear about the
Barbara Walters

Lewinsky interview, I have just had enough of all of that and had hoped
it was finally out of the news. Of course it was on the front page
of the paper this morning.
Well enough for now. Larry
Interesting thing about writing up this page was that just three days ago on the way back from camping at the Ochlocknee River I was listening to NPR on the radio and they were interviewing Susan Page who just released The Rulebreaker: The Life and Times of Barbara and the Lewinsky interview was discussed. The interview was watched by 70 million Americans, which was a record for a news show. Larry April 27, 2024
