Subject: Trial
Right, I was typing very fast as I only had a few minutes. I went
with the manslaughter. The jury has to be unanimous. If not,
the trial has to be held all over. Or, sometimes, the judge sends
you back and tells you to work over it again. I finally went with
the notion that there was no indication he hit brakes or tried to
swerve. He said in his police statement that he did, but there was
no evidence from either the prosecutor's side or the defense side that
he did either. Also, I thought that since these jurors so
overwhelmingly found him "guilty" it would be doubtful to get another
jury that did not as well. Had the split been other than 11:1, I
might have stuck to it. Also, I figured they would appeal. I
can't remember when I wrote you, but there was a long article in the
newspaper the next day about the trial and it indicated he would
probably get life. My professor said it was a "high profile
criminal case" for this area--I had asked some questions about some of
the procedures. So, who will get the cat? I heard about your
snow on the news and read about it in the newspapers. That was
something. I have been busy really all day, so it is late and you
won't get this til Monday. There are several movies I wouldn't
mind seeing this weekend. One the Nicolas Cage "thriller" and a
couple of others.
I'm tired, and I'm thinking about picking up a rotissire (sp?)chicken on
the way home so I don't have to worry about food this weekend.
Well, you will be back from Delaware when you read this. Its time
to buy impatiens almost and time for the hummingbird feeders, though the
birds hear never seem to show up that early at my feeder. Its
usually later.
