I think I wrote Friday as I recall you were driving to somewhere with
Julie about picking up a cat? Other than that I can't remember
what I wrote, except who gets the cat? I studied all weekend
except starting Sat. morn. I had an intense headache that would not go
away. I decided to go to the movies, because I was getting sick of
studying anyway. My choice turned out so so and now I wish I would
have gone to see Enemy of the State, as remarkably it is still here,
although it was not until 4 and I wanted to go at 1:00. I saw 8
mm. which was basically about a "snuff film," which is a form of porno
in which people are killed, or simulated to be killed. I always
enjoy movies which show me slices of life I know little about, or have
little experience with, so it was interesting in that respect to see how
porno is shot and marketed, etc. (There are apparently sort of
traveling flea market type operations that open up for a day or two in a
city, then pack up and move on.) Otherwise though, the movie was so, so.
I thought the female wife of the private investigator was overly
histrionic about his work absences, and basically the movie was dark,
dark, dark. The only other entertainment I had was watching a t.v.
movie called 12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda.
That was timely as it was about a juror in an 11:1 situation, but he
basically over a couple of hours turned the whole jury around to his
side. (I'm not Henry Fonda I thought.) I don't think I told you,
because it happened late, that the defense attorney called me about the
case I was on. I had run into her law clerk at school and he asked
for my number and if I would be willing to talk. At the end of the
conversation I realized she actually wanted some feed back on "how she
had done as a lawyer." I had already told someone she didn't do
too well. I just told her that everybody had their minds made up
and nothing, it seems, would have helped. I don't know--what do
you think--if you saw you were headed straight on to collide with two
cars and seven people in an intersection, even if you were right on
them, wouldn't you have "swerved" if not "braked." He did neither.
He said he was afraid his car "would fishtail." How was your trip?
I thought it might be a good opportunity for you to talk, being on a
long drive.
So, have you bypassed needing an ear operation and got recovery of your
hearing back yet? I am so grateful because I think the
ophthalmologist FINALLY fixed my eye problem. It was basically
that my left eye would tear and tear. I had to wipe it all the
time. No matter how careful I was, it kept getting a marginal
infection. I had to always be careful because the flu and colds
can transmit from the hand through the membrane of the eye. So, he
found that the punctum, the little hole letting the tears drain down
from the eye through the nose was very, very small. He punched it
open, which was a little scary, because imagine how tiny it is.
But, two weeks have passed and other than a little minor tearing the
problem seems cured. I have had the problem for over two years.
I'm still reading Virus, another book which is a detective book
involving a computer game, and Dickens is still unfinished. I'm
scared to death about one of my finals. I studied and studied and
studied, but there is an enormous amount of material. It covers
everything about a lawsuit from the filing of the complaint, the answer,
all the investigations (discovery), pretrial motions, the trial itself,
and post trial motions. The trouble is there can be claims and
counterclaims, and cross-claims, and impleaded parties (3rd parties who
you want in the suit), etc. Also, sanctions are covered, and
summary judgment and something called estoppel and summary judgment.
At least I am able to "list it all." That's something of an
accomplishment. I've heard my prof, whose class I have tonight,
has a very infection form of influenza. So far though, I haven't
had a call about class cancelling, which it has done two weeks in a row,
although one night we had Spring Lecture, a yearly event. I
actually washed my VW this weekend. The pine straw had piled up
under it and it was black with mold. I don't know what I will ever
do it. I'm kind of in a bind--it's a little ridiculous--maybe you
know something about it--I don't have the title to the car I'm driving,
so I'm having to use my VW tag on it--which is illegal, but I have no
choice, because I can't get a tag for the car without a title.
Consequently, I can't get rid of the VW because I need to keep getting
the tag to put on my other car. I think there is a process for
declaring the car "abandoned" but I would need to have it abandoned to
me, which it basically was, as it was left with me and never picked up
or claimed. I keep driving it and am keeping it maintained,
but--Oh Well. Elizabeth
Some things never seem to have changed, Elizabeth was always having car troubles back when we first met, but driving a car that you did not have title for and then using a tag from another car? That’s just plain crazy.
